My personal journey of faith

I was listening to a podcast today, and was reminded how important it is for us to record our beliefs. And I thought I'd take a few minutes today to record my journey of faith. Everybody has such a unique journey, and even though we may share ours from time to time, there is power in writing it out. I believe there's no harm in sharing my journey of faith in Heavenly Father, and I hope I can have this saved for my children and family to keep. My parents were raised in different faiths, my father was a Christian Scientist and my mother was a pastor's daughter of the Methodist faith. When they were married, they weren't sure which church to attend. They met a family while stationed in Germany that they admired and became friends with, and were then introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They talked to the missionaries, read the Book of Mormon, and the doctrine resonated with them. I think my mother was baptized before my father, but I am n...

Self reliance

-- -- Richard wrote out our experience of using the self reliance program through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I thought I would share  it on my blog. I hope we can pay it forward and help someone by sharing our experience and maybe provide motivation for anyone to try it out. In the past I have done Dave Ramsey‘s financial peace University and really enjoyed it. So I volunteered to help with the self-reliance financial class hoping to gain more insight into budgeting and using our money wisely. What I came to realize even more was the importance of adopting an attitude where money is not mine, it is the Lord’s and I am a steward of the money that I have and I need to spend it in a way that would uplift our family and please my Heavenly Father. ------------------- When the Army moved us to Elgin, OK in July of 2018, we didn’t know what to expect. It was a town of 4,000 with a small ward 30 min away that had recently been a branch. While Elgin was g...

Summer in Indy

We’ve had a great summer so far! Abby participated in art, nature and dance camps, the girls are taking swim lessons, and we found ONE Monarch caterpillar this season 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Better than nothing! We went to South Bend to visit my dear friend Sariah and her family, then went with them to Lake Michigan. Super quick trip but it was beautiful. I basically got weirdly excited seeing all the milkweed patches along the highway in bloom. I have problems 😂😂😅 Other than that, we’ve been just hanging out at the library, with family, and experiencing a great summer in Indy ❤️ Just wish we went to the pool more often! That’s my next priority. 😜

Costume Dramas I recommend

These are what I think are relatively free on Amazon Prime, PBS, Netflix and the like. Some are well known but others are hidden gems!! I love historical series and anything I can watch while folding laundry and cleaning or just relaxing after the kids are in bed.  The Railway Children — Amazon Prime, rated PG-13 (2000) A darling movie about some wealthy children who are displaced after their father is wrongly imprisoned. They end up loving the country and the people in it.  Doctor Thorne — 2016 TV-14 A series based on a book, and it reminds me a bit of Pride and Prejudice with issues revolving around class and wealth, and inheritance.  Les Miserables —PBS TV-14 (2019) A lovely new rendition of the classic, without the musical songs. Simply a drama. I enjoyed it very much.  Mrs. Wilson 2019 TV-14 PBS  LOVED this one,  based off a TRUE story. Absolutely fascinating. The main actress is playing her real life grandmother in the story! Highl...

The miracle that landed us back in Indy after 15 years of being gone!

(A photo of the chapel in Anadarko, Oklahoma.) After having lived in Idaho, Utah, AZ, TX, OK, I always longed to move back to Indiana. My family is here, I love having all four seasons! I also appreciate the good schools in Fishers and now here in Brownsburg. I love the rain, the lack of scorpions and fire ants. You can actually walk barefoot in the grass without getting stung by something! Also-- there is grass!! And not spiky thorns or crunchy sharp rocks! All these little things I missed. The biggest plus is being near family. My sister Mindy wasn’t born until I was 14, and so I feel like I missed so much of her life. Now she’s driving and so old at 16! But It’s not too late to bond with her more before she graduates in a couple years 😭. How it all started  Richard was notified by a colleague at work about an opportunity in Indianapolis to be a medical recruiter back in October 2018. I guess they had a hard time filling the position with someone from the nursing Corp so...

Things I loved about Oklahoma

I have been thinking a lot about how crazy it was that we lived in Oklahoma for only 6 months, because I had been anticipating living there for a solid 3 years. I had SUCH mixed emotions when we moved. I had fallen in love with the state in such a short amount of time and enjoyed living in a small, rural town. Living in Oklahoma was like going back in time, in a good way. Seeing livestock for miles on the highway, we never got tired of saying "LOOK THERE ARE COWS!" while driving to church or to Fort Sill. The people we interacted with, both military and local civilians, were so easy going and accepting. There was no "keeping up with the Jones's" attitude really, it felt like a very close knit community over in Elgin. I enjoyed a break from teaching, since the previous two years were insane with Richard in residency and me teaching in 2017. Moving to Oklahoma was a fresh start, a breath of fresh air, and I had my hopes up of finally getting to rai...

Home is where the heart is

It has been a crazy year for us! I am starting this blog because I MISS MY FRIENDS from all over the place! After living in Utah, then Arizona, then Texas and Oklahoma, I feel so disconnected from so many people I had gotten close with through church, being neighbors, dental school, book clubs, kid's schools, all of it! Please reach out to me and let me know how your family is doing, I'd love to know more details outside of the occasional instagram post and Christmas card.  Here's what's new with us. We are so grateful to be here in Indiana, of all places. Richard applied for a Medical Recruiting position here in Indy, and was denied, and then ACCEPTED, so we ran with it and now here we are. Even though he is giving up full-time dentistry, he is excited to do some moonlighting and more. But you'd have to talk to him more about that. I'm thrilled to death the be near my family. I've been made fun of for my Indiana obsession over the years, but truly it...
